Swimming and Aquatic Teaching Qualifications from the STA.
The STA is a founder member of the International Federation of Swimming Teachers Associations (IFSTA) whose members throughout the world teach swimming to exacting, high standards. In the UK the STA is represented on all major UK committees concerned with promoting water safety and swimming. They are also recognized by many independent bodies, swimming groups and local authorities.
The STA has been awarded the British Standards Institution ISO 9001 Certification and is approved by the QCA as an awarding body. Most swimming and aquatic teaching qualifications are included on the National Qualifications Framework as Level 2 qualifications Visit www.sta.co.uk.
The Birthlight Trust is an educational charity, set up in Cambridge, that over the last 15 years has developed simple practices inspired by Yoga and the parenting style of Amazonian forest people to reach an increasing number of parents, midwives, teachers and carers. The application of adapted exercises and relaxation also in the water has proved most beneficial to pregnancy, birth and the first crucial years of child development.
The Birthlight approach has been developed over twenty years in a direction that offers a positive response to these recent trends by promoting 'water parenting’; emphasis is placed on nurturing the bond between parent and infant in the water, and this is done by using both specially designed movement and relaxation techniques in water in ways that are most conducive to the development of survival skills and swimming.

Zara & Scott have been swimming with their 2 boys, Nade and Edan, since they were five and 4 weeks old respectively. Zara was really excited when she saw an article about baby swimming in a parenting magazine and loved the idea of Andrea joined the team in 2010 ~ starting off in a class with her own daughter in 2006 she decided to train up to help out on the weekend courses, but since May 2011 Andrea has been part of the full time Little Turtle team. Andrea also runs her own Aquanatal & Aqua Therapy sessions where she combines the natural relaxation and stretches of yoga with the calming properties of water.
Edan was a baby who actively avoided sleep! Spending structured time in the water allowed all his senses to be stimulated, giving him a baby work-out; this is sensitive enough not to over excite him and allowed him to relax significantly to get a deeper sleep than normal. Zara started her training in May 2006 and hasn’t looked back since. She has been leading her own classes since September 2006 and continues to expand her knowledge, not only in swimming techniques but also child psychology and development studies. Her teacher training has been through the STA (Swimming Teachers Association) and Birthlight. Qualifications ~ Zara Scott |
